Case of Rum

Hello!  Sorry for the delay in posting, but we've been dealing with some sick babies around here.  Emily developed fever on Sunday that just kept spiking all night, so I took her to the doctor on Monday and she has double ear infections and needs breathing treatments for a few days!  :o(  So she has been very fussy and clingy, and *sigh*... she's finally starting to feel better today.

Well, as soon as we got home from the doctor on Monday, the school called to say that Evelyn had a fever too!  Sooo, we went back to the doctor and Evie also has an ear infection!  My poor girls.  They're both now on antibiotics and starting to feel better, but goodness, it's been crazy around here.  Oh well, case of rum, case of rum.  God doesn't give us more than we can handle, so it's all good, just a little tiring, haha.  :o)

Anyhow...  here are the pics from Mardi Gras and last week.  :o)

Mardi Gras:
We were up bright and early and out the door by 6:15!
Except for Emily.  Haha, she was kinda awake in the car, blowing on her new whistle, but that didn't last long.

We went to see the Krewe of Zulu and Rex parades, so we found us a great spot on St. Charles Avenue, just inside downtown, near Chris' work.
Rock star seating.  :o)

The parades didn't start until about 8:30, so the kids played DS while Emily roamed about.
:o)

Hehe, they were so excited!

Except for Emily, haha.  She fell back asleep before the parade got to us.  Mask courtesy of Joshua.

The kids liked climbing up on the gate.

Zulu was giving out these hand-painted coconuts!
They must've liked Evelyn because we came home with 4.  :o)

Emily got a baton-wand thing.  She loved it and immediately started trying to take out her brothers.

Haha, no worries, she wasn't really hitting them, they just kept acting like they were scared and hurt so she would laugh.  What great brothers.  :o)

They yelled and waved sooo much.

And seriously - they loved Evelyn.
She kept getting great stuff!

Emily got a few stuffed animals too.  :o)

Here comes Rex, King of the Carnival!

Goodness, it was just crazy out there!  We were very fortunate to be surrounded by a great group of people, all friendly and laughing.

The King's Jesters were throwing out these really neat Rex wristbands that we all got.  And see that yellow flower in Evie's hair?  She got that from a parade group called "The Old Buzzards".  They were giving out flowers to girls and then asking for kisses.  So when Evie got a flower, the nice old guy asked for a kiss on the cheek and she very shyly gave him one.  Hehe.  :o)

And man, the floats just got bigger and bigger.

So awesome!

Happy Evie and Daddy.  :o)

"Catch it Daddy!"

Too. Much. Fun!  :o) (And dude, that dude's on stilts!)

"Hey Chris, take my picture with this sleepy baby in the middle of all this chaos!"
:o)

Joshua's turn!  We had such a great Mardi Gras.

We didn't leave until about 2 (no worries, we had drinks and food with us) and on our walk back to the car, Chris told the kids that these sculptures move.
So the kids got to work.

Haha, they pushed it all the way around a couple of times before they got bored.  Nerds.

Wednesday:
Before the parade on Monday, Matthew lost a tooth!  Unfortunately, he really lost his tooth.  It was already really loose, and they were playing football in the field in front of the house.  When he threw the football up in the air, he caught it with his face and knocked his tooth out, hehe.  (No worries, it was a nerf ball.)  But then they couldn't find the tooth!  Chris was even out there searching, and no luck, it's just gone.  So on Tuesday, Matthew wrote the Tooth Fairy a note:
"Dear Tooth Fairy,  Sorry I lost my tooth.  Its in the field.  I'll make sure I don't lose any other teeth."

And then he drew a picture of his tooth in the field.
Hehe.

He put the note under his pillow, and the "Tooth Fairy" wrote him back.
"Matthew, Thanks for the note.  I used my tooth detector and found your tooth in the field by your house.  I'll take good care of it.  T.F."  Haha, when he woke up Wednesday morning, he was very happy that the Tooth Fairy wrote him back and still left him some money.  :o)

We had an easy day here at the house.
Emily entertained herself with Frisbees from the parades.

The boys played lots of video games.
And sorry no pic of Evie, she spent the day outside with her "gang" of course.

Later Emily found the cups from the parade...
and made a mess with those too.

"Cups are awesome!" :o)

Thursday:
Just a quick pic before school.
Unfortunately, Matthew had to miss his first day back to school because he came down with a nasty stomach bug the night before.  He was much better by Thursday afternoon, and was able to go to school on Friday.  But goodness, when it rains it pours with these kids getting sick.  We've gone through 2 cans of Lysol since then!

Friday:
Booger and Lita came to visit!  And they made it just in time to go to Evie's Family Poetry Share at school.
Each student got up and read their poems to the class, while we all had punch and cookies.

I knew that Evie had written 2 poems, but until everybody was sharing, I didn't realize that she was the only one with 2 poems.  Her teacher sounded very proud and said, "And Evelyn has 2 poems to share with everybody."  Haha, I love my little overachiever.

"Mmmm... free cookies."

Her first poem was "Elephants" which are her favorite animal (because it starts with 'E'.)

Her second poem was "Love Your Parents."
"You were born from your parents, they are very kind.
They think you have an intelligent mind.

Parents are the best, they love you very much.
They take care of you and make sure you have lunch.

You should always love your parents even if you are mad.
If you love your parents you will feel very glad."
:o)

Later we went to dinner with Booger and Lita.
Emily slept through the appetizers.

We tried a new restaurant not too far away and it was pretty darn good.

Of course she was awake for desert.  :o)

Saturday:
Emily was up way too early.
And got to work on breakfast.  Haha, she was upstairs with Lita and very quiet.  I found them sitting in the boys' room playing with all the play food.  She wore that hat for a good 10 minutes, hehe.  I hear she even got Lita to wear it, but sorry, no pics.  ;o)

Go Chef Emily!

Later we played Life with the kids.

And then we went to church.  :o)

And guess what my big boy got to do?!
:o)  Yay Altar Server Joshua!  He got to be an altar server for the first time.  He's considered a "novice" and was not allowed to do anything but walk and sit with the others this time.  But eventually, they'll add more tasks as he gets more experience.  So proud!  :o)

Sunday:
We took it easy on Sunday.  When I sat the kids down for breakfast, Emily rushed over and grabbed a chair for herself and tried to sit down at the table too.
Silly girl.  And yes, of course, I let her. :o)

Matthew and Evelyn had some fun with the bowling set that Matthew got from the Rex parade.

Joshua kept score, and it was really cute, when they weren't arguing.  Goodness, they're starting to act more and more like siblings!  ;o)

And that's about it.  Lita and Booger left that afternoon and we spent the day watching TV (they all watched the last half of "Singin' in the Rain" with me!), playing outside, and preparing for the week ahead.  Sunday night was when Emily's fever got bad, so it's been crazy since then, but we're doing good.

Tomorrow is Picture Day, so the kids are excited about wearing their own clothes to school.  Evie's doing really good today, so I think she'll be back to school for that.  Wish us luck!  I hope y'all are having a good week.  Again, sorry for the blog delay, but sometimes life, or maybe just God, jumps up and says, "Ha, you really think you get to do what you want today?! Hahaha!"  :o)  But like I said, it's all good.

Laters!
