School Daze

Hello there!  Well, it's been a few weeks since our last post, and with school back in full swing, it's been all studying and homework and projects again - oh my!  ;o)  So when I sat down to download my cameras, I was shocked to see I had less than 250 new pics!  :oO  Haha, I know, not much to work with, but we still had a few cool things to share.  :o)

Guess who got a saxophone??
That's right!  Joshua received his new instrument a couple of weeks ago.  (And in case you're wondering, yes, we're renting it until he decides for sure that this is the instrument for him - seriously, who knew how much those things could cost?!)

But check out his smile!
The first week sounded very much like a dying elephant lived in our library.  The second week, he was ready to turn in his instrument and quit band.  :oO  But now, he's able to play his scales without much trouble and he's all excited again and devoted to practicing every day.  :oD

We took Evelyn to pick out some new glasses.
And while I did not take any pictures of her in the glasses she tried on, she did pose with the Duck Dynasty dude for me.  ;o)

Emily knows that her name starts with an E and has been trying to write it.

Her very first attempt to copy my E-
Awww, not too bad my baby.  :o)

Lita and the gang came to New Orleans for her Big 50th Birthday Bash!
So we got to head downtown and party New Orleans style!

:o)

:oD

Happy Birthday Lita!

Everybody got to eat some of Lita's dessert.  :o)

We had soooo much yummy New Orleans food, and we got to go to Mass at St. Louis Cathedral too - and Joshua and Evelyn were asked to bring the gifts up to the Altar!  It was so cool!
What a great birthday bash and mini stay-cation!  ;o)

Yeah - she's doing a puzzle on Evelyn's tablet, isn't that so cool??
She told me, "When I get big like Evie, I going to get a tablet."  Hahaha!  Not even 3 yet and she can't wait to buy her first tablet.  Lol!  :oP

Go Cowboys!!

Showing her big sister that she can write her name.

Yeah, when she writes an E, she says that it says, "Emily".  Hehe.

Matthew's been practicing some cursive in school, but I guess they were introducing new letters too slow for him.  When he found our cursive practice book at home, he ran through it and proudly showed me that not only could he write his name - he could write puppy!
Haha.  :o)

The kids' school had Open House.
And all of their teachers were just gushing over those midgets, telling me how they'd love to have 10 Matthews in their class, that they wish all their kids were as well-behaved as Joshua, and how they just adored having Evelyn in their classes.  ;oD

Emily's still on the "pony-tails only" kick.  "A pony-tail!  Like the girl who loves unicorns.  Agg-es!"  (Agnes - who, in case you didn't know, is the little girl from Descpicable Me.)  :o)
Our headbands are starting to gather dust, but man, she's a cutie!

Practice!  Practice!  Practice!

So, we got Pitch Perfect on our Netflix, and everyone really enjoyed this funny almost-musical movie.  And nobody enjoyed it more than Emily.  She watched it every day for a week, and she even dances and sings along to it!  So yeah, she was sooo happy when we bought it for her.

Seriously.  Check her out!
Her eyes are just screaming at us, "I can't wait to watch this again!!"  Can't you see it?!  ;o)

Go Cowboys!
Oh - the kids went to the annual Altar Server training - and Matthew is now officially a Server.  :o)  Woohoo!  All 3 of them served together just this past week, and besides that one time the priest had to turn him around because he started walking the wrong way, it went really well!  ;oD

When Daddy's working on something, Emily likes to hang out and work on stuff with him.  :o)

I snuck up on Matthew and Emily because he was reading a book to her and it was just adorable!  He was doing all the voices and talking to her about the pictures and everything.  :o)  I made sure to get some video of it too.

So, Evelyn had her first cheerleading practice of the year, and when I went to pick her up, I saw her standing in front of the other girls, telling them what to do and how to hold their fists up.  Then she went around the room and started correcting them.
I was like - Oh no!  Her bossy-ness is taking over!  Haha!

But, what I didn't realize at the time, I was actually watching the new
Captain of the JV Cheer Squad leading her people!
Yes.  She's the Captain!
Isn't that awesome?!  She said that she was standing in line with everyone else and the cheer coach said, "Where's my friend Evelyn at?"  And Evie walked over to her and the coach said, "Okay - I want everyone to meet Evelyn.  Evelyn, say hi to everyone.  Evelyn is going to be our JV Captain this year!"  :oD  She has 2 co-captains to help her out, but yeah, that girl is cool.  ;o)

Ancient civilizations project all done!

And check out those new glasses!
She really wanted the exact same ones she already had, but we couldn't find them, but these are sooo similar that you almost can't even tell the difference.  So she's very happy with them.  :o)

Daddy was getting some work done from home, so Emily joined him.  :o)

Workin' is hard.  ;o)

Poster to celebrate Constitution Day.

Isn't it great?!
She'll turn it in this week for the contest they're having.  :o)

Wow - Emily, those E's are getting better and better!
:o)

And yep, that's what we've been up to these past few weeks.  :o)
The kids start their after-school clubs this week.  Joshua is doing Minecraft Club and Band.  Evelyn is doing Scrapbooks & Stamping and Cheer.  And Matthew is doing Computer Club, Lego Robotics, and Science Mania.  They're all very excited.  All of their grades are looking good and I think we finally got the hang of this crazy school routine thing again.  Emily and I are working on her coloring skills, having lots of tea parties, and watching Pitch Perfect over and over, haha!  So it's all good in the 'hood.  Hope everyone is doing well, staying dry, and having a great week.  :o)

We Like to Party, Party!

Hello!  Okay, here are the pics from the rest of the kids' summer vacation and all our August awesome-ness.  :o)

Emily set up the entire tea party all by herself and then told everybody, "Okay, time for tea!  Come on."

Movie Day at the Community Center - Despicable Me!

Emily enjoyed shopping for birthday party supplies.

And Joshua freaked us all out with this thing.
"Are you my Mummy?"
*shivers*  Doctor Who reference, a very scary Doctor Who reference.
Take it off J!  Quick!  ;oP

:o)

We went to a Family Fun MWR event on August 8th.
Yay for giant slides!

And bouncy houses!

Lol!

Thank goodness they gave us popsicles cuz it was HOT out there.

That Navy Band plays some mean jazz.  :o)

They provided hot dogs for lunch, but since we were baking alive out there, we decided to call it a day and have our picnic indoors.

We made lots of preparations for Joshua's early birthday party.

I love blue cupcakes!

And then this happened.
AHAHAHA!  Joshua was wearing that neck pillow on his head when they suddenly realized he looked just like Dora.

So yeah.
Hehehe.  Emily got a kick out it.  :o)

The night before J's big Doctor Who party, we gave him an early birthday present.
His very own bow tie!

A la the 11th Doctor -
:o)

Joshua's party was on Sunday, August 11th.
Yeah, we got a Tardis poster for the front door.  (It's now happily hanging on Joshua's bedroom door.)

We made popcorn bags and all the kids made their own popcorn trail mix.

Evil Doctor Who cupcakes!

And our very own Doctor J.  :oD

We played Pin the Bow Tie on the Doctor.

Happy Birthday Joshua!!

Then they all sat around eating cake and ice cream while watching a Doctor Who episode carefully chosen by Joshua.

He finally got his very own Sonic Screwdriver (the Doctor's "weapon" of choice.)

Who-ology!

He actually ended up with 2 Sonic Screwdriver sets!

Can't you just feel the happy coming off of him?!  ;o)

What a great party!

Over the next week, Daddy caught us some more fish.

And we attended a mini-birthday party for a guinea pig.
Yes, seriously.  See it??  :o)

Emily brought me the sink from her Dora kitchen and said, "Look, Barbie has a hat!"
Haha!

Gymnastics time for Evelyn!

That girl is so strong.  :o)

Matthew did some building with marshmallows and toothpicks.

:o)

"See, when I hold it like this, it's flat and 2-dimensional, but..."

"When I rotate the sides, it becomes a 3-D cube!"
Nice Matthew.  And yes, they then ate all those marshmallows.  :o)

Shopping is so hard.

The kids were writing their own TV shows for the TV channel they were making, and I found this "script" that Matthew wrote for a comedy sketch.
It's called "Baby Rodeo."
And I really don't get what was supposed to be happening on this show at all, but this was the funniest thing ever.
How to make your horse eat
1. Get hay in box.
2. Dunk your horse in it.
3. Horse will eat.

How to make your horse drink
1. Get water in box.
2. Dunk your horse in it.
3. Horse will drink.

How to make your horse clean
1. Whip your horse.
2. Tell it to clean or get whipped.
3. Horse will clean.

How to make your horse sleep
1. Get a lullaby.
2. Get horse.
3. Play lullaby and horse will fall asleep.

LOL!  Oh that boy!  Hehehe.  I don't know where he gets this stuff.  :oD

The weekend of August 17th, we went to Houston to celebrate Maw Maw Hernandez's 70th birthday.
The kids got a new Doctor Who Monopoly game for their birthdays.  :o)

And Emily got some stickers.
:oD

They also got in some quality pool time fun.

"I swim by myself!"  Hehe.

:o)

Emily practiced her skillz on the drums.

And the Midget Band got back together.
;o)

Surprise Maw Maw!  Happy Birthday!

We had such a great time celebrating with her and visiting with all our family and friends.  :o)

And the kids just danced the night away.

Oppa Gangnam Style!
Haha.  Seriously, those fools love parties.  :o)

Indiana Matt-dog was all set for an adventure!

The next Monday, the kids had student orientation.
And J was lookin' too fly in his middle school duds not to take a pic.  :o)

Indiana Matthew scoured the backyard for treasure.
Luckily, Daddy threw a few random Mexican pesos out there for him to find.  ;o)

And then there was this proud moment.
Way to go Daddy!  :oD

Evie helped me make invitations for her Lord of the Rings themed birthday party.
"One Party to Rule Them All."  Hehe.

Wednesday, August 21st was Joshua's 11th birthday and
the First Day of School!!

They were all really excited!
Even Emily - who I totally expected to be upset... but besides tattling on Matthew - "Mommy, Matthew says I can't go to school!" (haha!) - she was just fine hanging out with me all day.  :o)

:oD

Matthew decorated his Writing Journal that afternoon for homework.

:o)

And we caught Emily actually trying to color in the lines!
Good job girl!

Time to sing Happy Birthday to Joshua!

Daddy provided some very entertaining harmonies.  :o)

His reaction to finally getting some Peanut Butter Chocolate pop tarts.  Haha!

:o)

"Mommy...
I'm Batman."
Hehehe.  :oD

Gotta make sure those stuffed animals are well protected.

:o)

Picking up the kids from school was cutting in to her nap time.

We had bananas for an afternoon snack, so Matthew said, "Can I throw the peels outside in the grass so they can decompose and make compost?"  Uh, sure!
With his banana peels.  Lol!  :o)

Tuesday, August 27th was Evelyn's 10th birthday!!

And later that night, we did our annual Measuring of the Midgets.
:o)

Yeah, we might have to start marking him on the wall next year, haha.

Seriously, look!  No one's ever going to catch him!  ;o)
Over the past year - Joshua grew about 1 3/4" to 58" tall
Evelyn grew about 2 3/4" to 50.5" tall
Matthew grew about 2 1/8" to 50" tall

and Emily grew about 4 1/4" to 36 1/2" tall!
Such big midgets!  :o)

Time to sing Happy Birthday to Evelyn!

And once again, Daddy supplied us with some awesome near-operatic warbling.

Which made the kids smile so big.  :o)

:o)

The next day, Evelyn did a beautiful job decorating her Math Journal.

"Mommy look.  I'm Superman!"
:o)

No, I didn't get a new one, hehe.  Evelyn's friend was waiting for Joshua with us.

Evelyn had her annual eye exam and, as suspected, her eyes have gotten worse.  :oP
So yep - we'll be hunting for some new glasses very soon!
(Sorry my midgets, that's all Mommy's fault.)  ;o)

Since Joshua's in Middle School now, we're giving him a little more say when it comes to his participation in dress-down days.  And since "everyone" was dressing down for the mini-6th grade dance at school that day, he did too.
Yes, he wore the bow tie.
No, I couldn't talk him out of it!  (But you can thank me for convincing him not to wear the matching vest.  :oP)  Lol, I was worried, but he came home from school that day and told me that everyone loved his bow tie!  0.0  And how cool it was that one guy even had a shirt with a bow tie printed on it already.  Goodness gracious me. *rolls eyes*  I just don't know what to expect with these kids!

That afternoon, we prepared for Evelyn's Lord of the Rings birthday party and sleepover.
No admittance, except on party business, of course.
:o)

She loved the cake we found her.  :o)

And yes, we stuck Matthew's lego figurines on it to make it more Hobbit-y.  :oD

The Elf cookies were awesome.

And she loved these chocolate bars disguised as Elf bread too!

:oD

Happy Birthday Evelyn!!

I love her reaction to the Lego Frodo bookmark we got her!  :o)

Friends are like wedgies...
It feels great when you pick out a good one!
:oP

The boys and Emily had fun playing games downstairs.

While the girls took over upstairs.
And they stayed up until 3:30 in the morning!  :oP  Bleh.  Yeah, no more sleepovers for me Evelyn for a long, long time.  Everybody was grumpy the next day.  ;o)

Emily got a hold of this old desk lamp while we were cleaning out a closet.
She kept sticking her face in there and shouting, "ATTENTION!  Can I have your ATTENTION please!"
Lol, I guess she liked how her voice was amplified when she did it.  :o)

Oh - and she found a new favorite cereal.
Cookie Crisp!  :o)

And yep, that's what we've been up to for the past month.  :o)
The kids were out of school for Labor Day, and we had a great weekend visit with Uncle Boy.  But other than that, we're back to early mornings, daily homework, and dreading excitement for upcoming projects.  ;o) Church classes start tomorrow and Joshua has his first BCA Eagle Band meeting too (eek!)  Thanks to everyone for all the kids' Happy Birthday wishes!  :o)  Hope you're all doing well.
