Monday:
Matthew's class participated in a Parade of Nations at school.
His class represented the good ole U. S. of A. :o)
Yeah, the stroll over to the school knocked her out, so she slept through it.
He was so happy we were there. :o)
Yay America!
:o)
Then it was game time!
What a happy softball player.
The cheering section was all ready to go. :o)
And she's playing 3rd base now...
Haha, yeah, I don't get it either, but she did a great job. ;o)
Hey batter batter!
"Go Ee-ee!!" :o)
They walked her.
And then they tried to stop her, but yep...
She stole 2nd!
And she made it home - Woohoo!
Aww, and here's one last picture of our bat boy in action.
Yeah, the fateful injury occurred just after I took this. :o/
The previous batter was walked, so as Joshua was at home plate picking up her bat, the next batter took an extra practice swing and caught him in the back of his left hand. And worst part of all - I wasn't there when it happened! :o(
Emily had to pee, so we were in the bathroom! Blech. (And Chris was working nights, so he couldn't be there.)
Fortunately, one of the assistant coaches helped him out and got him some ice, and he did not cry (at least not until I got back. <-- But don't tell him I said that, cuz he'll just deny it!) ;o1 I checked his hand, pushed around on it, made him wiggle everything, and although he winced, he seemed just fine.
Later, Evie was walked in for another point, and they won!!
Woohoo! Go Bayou Crew!
Evie was so happy for their first win. :o)
When J woke up, his hand was still pretty swollen, but he said that it wasn't hurting, so we administered some more ice and motrin and decided to see how it looked after school...
Emily and I were reading this book, "Honey Helps", about a puppy dog. I read, "Honey has a bone." And she said, "Look! I have a bone too! In my arm." And she held up her arm in front of my face so I could see her bone. Hehehe. She's such a smart girl. :o)
When Joshua got home from school, we pushed all over his hand and he had only a little pain, "like a bruise" he said, but it was still quite swollen... so I called his doctor and got him an appointment to have it looked at the next day...
Then it was time for another game!
While Evie prepared to play, the boys stuck their noses in their books. ;o)
:o)
We got there kinda early, so Joshua helped his sister out by throwing her a few grounders and fly balls. No worries, she made sure to roll the ball back to him each time. :o)
Lookin' good Evie.
That girl's got a great swing, but yeah...
She struck out. :oP Shake it off Evie!
Emily decided to use all her crayons at once.
But then she took a break to cheer her sister on.
"Go! Go!" It was so cute. :o)
Later, Joshua let Emily borrow his hat.
Haha! :oD
Joshua said, "Hey Emmy - hold the hat over your face so you can look like an angry bird!"
"Now say Grrr!" And she said, "Grrrrr!" Lol!
Well, Evelyn's team lost, so their winning streak was over.
But who cares? That was fun! :o)
Joshua's appointment was at 11:30, so we checked him out of school and headed to New Orleans. His doc said that although it looked okay, and that he seemed to have an amazing tolerance for pain, she wanted him to have x-rays done just to be on the safe side.
And yes, that's him using his left (injured) hand to play with Emily. :oP
So then we headed over to the children's hospital for x-rays.
We were in and out in 20 minutes, and dropped him back off at the school by 1. :o)
Then we went to the bowling alley on base because Matthew's class was having a field trip there!
:o)
Man, that boy thinks he's a Rock Star when he bowls.
Hehe!
Emily was content to eat her snacks and watch - for once!
Haha. Thanks girl. ;o)
See - bowlin' like a straight up Rock Star.
Lol!
He had such a great time, and I'm really glad we got to make it. :o)
Yeah, even with the bumpers, his score wasn't all that high.
But he didn't care, he had so much fun!
Speaking of scores...
Matthew brought home his IOWA test results.
Okay, quick explanation - the NPR is the "percent of students in the same grade who obtained a lower score" than Matthew.
75-99 = Above average range
24-74 = Average range
Also, the "GE - Grade Equivalent describes student performance in terms of grade level and month."
Oh yeah - our boy did outstanding on his test!
His GE's ranged from 4.2 (in Math Computations) to 5.9 (!) in Vocabulary. Wowsers!!
His overall Core Composite is 5.0!
Watch out Fifth grade - he's ready for you!! ;o)
We are very, very proud of our hard-working midget and future computer scientist. ;o) Go Matt-dog!
(By the way, we should be getting Evie's LEAP results and Joshua's iLeap results this week!)
When we explained to Matthew that he did better than 99% of the 2nd graders who took this test, he said, "So, that means I'm one of the smartest 2nd graders in Louisiana??" Lol! Yep - you sure are! :oD
That afternoon, Evie's softball team had pictures. But so did about 20 other teams, so while they waited for their turn, the kids found ways to entertain themselves.
It's Limbo time!
:o)
Get low Em!
They played lots of clapping games and tag too, and then they (finally) took some great pictures!
Can't wait to see how they turned out. :o)
Thursday:
The kids were ahead of schedule getting ready for school that morning.
So they got some time to watch the awesomeness that is The Avengers movie again. From their slack-jawed faces you can see how much they love that movie, hehe. :o)
Right after we took the kids to school, Joshua's doctor called to say that he did indeed have a fracture in his hand. :o/ So we ran back up to the school to take J back to the hospital for an appointment with the orthopedist.
Emily played with the fish while we waited for Joshua to come to the office. :o)
Well - the orthopedist confirmed that he has a compound/buckle fracture in the first finger bone (metacarpal?) on the back of his hand and that he would need to be in a cast for a few weeks for it to heal.
We were sent over to the "Cast Room" and Joshua asked me, "Are you gonna take pictures of this for the blog?" Haha! I said, "Only if you want me to." He said, "Yeah, okay, you can." ;o)
Last pic without a cast.
He was a little nervous, but also thought it was kinda neat how they got him all wrapped up.
And Tada! All done!
I asked the doctor if we should have rushed him in sooner, but she said they would have had to wait a couple of days for the swelling to go down before casting him anyways. :o1 I guess... but man, I may be rushing them all to an ER from now on. :oP
We're just thankful it wasn't a worse break, you know?
And 3 weeks isn't all that long. Joshua is being so brave and really hanging in there. But man, that thing is pretty heavy... let's pray God gives him a lot of strength, patience, and understanding. :o)
After school, Evelyn had her JV Cheer end-of-the-year party and awards ceremony.
Yeah, sorry she's lookin' a little rough - she also went on a Swamp Tour for a class field trip that day! She said that it was so awesome, "And I even got to hold a baby alligator! It was all squishy-feeling." (Uh... eww.) Haha, she had a great time. :o)
Good job JV!
Emily enjoyed the array of chips available.
Each girl received a participation trophy.
Which Evelyn very happily received. :o)
And then the coach said, "Now we have a new award. We decided to start a new tradition of giving a Spirit Stick to a special cheerleader each year. And we went back and forth on who should be our very first recipient, but we finally agreed to give it to a girl who has really stepped out this year. This girl has been here for 2 years and it wasn't until this year that she clearly came out of her shell, showed her true colors, and was always helping out her fellow cheerleaders.
And that is Ms. Evelyn Nutt."
!!!!!
Awww - she was so surprised! (And me too! hehe)
Oh my, it was such a sweet moment for her.
Wow - seriously, could we be any more proud?
Way to go Evelyn! :o)
At the party, Emily had noticed a little scrape on the back of my finger, but I told her it was alright, I'd put a band-aid on it later. So when we got home, she went to her sticker book, picked out a lovely owl sticker, and then asked to see my bo-bo. I said, "Okay... What's that?" She said, "Band-aid. For bo-bo." And she stuck that sticker on my bo-bo and gave it a kiss!
Awww. It instantly felt better. ;o) Thanks Emily!!
By the time Joshua got home from school, his cast was covered in signatures. :o)
And if you look close, you can see that Kennali and Elizabeth also drew hearts on his cast. *rolls eyes* Haha! :oD
Then we all made a quick trip to the store so I could finish up some grocery shopping and so the midgets could spend some their paycheck money.
:o)
Joshua purchased some new Yu-gi-oh cards, Matthew bought some cards too and a new Skylander, and since Evelyn is still saving up her money, she just bought a Dr. Pepper and some Tic Tacs. :o)
Superman couldn't hang, but she got a nice nap in.
Friday:
The kids were lookin' sharp for school on Friday.
Evie wore pink for breast cancer awareness. The boys adamantly refused chose not to. :o)
"I Superman! I Superman! Dun Dun DUNNN!"
Haha, yeah, she wore it all day, even to the school to drop the kids off and pick them up.
"I Princess Emily!"
So she's got a split personality, what can I say? ;o)
She brought Evelyn a skirt and hat and said, "Ee-ee, dress up too. Be princess like me!"
It was really cute - as Emily was twirling like a ballerina, she was singing really softly, "Tip toe, tip toe, tip toe... Tada!" And then she bowed and said, "Thank you. Thank you." Lol!
She also tried to get Joshua to dress up, haha. And although he got up and danced with her, he skipped the outfit. ;o)
Late night grapefruit snack!
:o)
And check it out! - We took that rail off her crib! So now she has a big girl bed!
And she loves it!
"I big girl!"
Then she excitedly ran in the other room to get the kids so they could see her new bed.
"See Joshua, it's Boots!"
:o)
Saturday:
We spent a wonderful, stress-free, and lazy day at home.
The boys played games while watching Pokemon, which Matthew obviously couldn't take his eyes off of (which is understandable since Saturday is the only day of the week they ever get to watch it.) And yes, Joshua has figured out just how to hold his DS and Wii controllers so that he can still play his games with the cast. :o)
Evie got in some early morning exercise.
And she picked me some pretty pink flowers!
Emily enjoyed them too, haha! :o)
It was a straight-up party out there!
Daddy set up the bouncy house in the backyard for Emily.
And she was so happy about it! :o)
Yeah, she jumped in there for maybe 5 minutes, and then the sun came out. So she decided it was "too hot", and got out. Daddy put a sheet over the top to give her some shade, but yeah, she just kept sayin', "It's too hot." Hehe. :o)
So we moved to the front yard and tried out her new big girl scooter!
Someone was selling it on the base Facebook site a few days ago, so we snatched it up, yay! Yeah, she wasn't able to really go anywhere, but she had fun trying! We'll try again another day.
Then we spent the rest of that sunny day playing outside.
Yay for the playground! :o)
All the kids played hard out there, and Emily was lookin' especially disheveled after all that sliding, sweating, and running around. She finally started asking me if it we could go back inside, haha. :o)
Time to cool off and play dress-up.
:o)
Yeah, just after her bath, she climbed right into her big girl bed and didn't even wait for me to pull the sheet down, haha. She was out by 7:30!
The other kids made it to 9:00, and they were all hard to wake up the next morning for church. ;o)
Sunday:
We went to early Mass, and yep - they needed Altar Servers again. Evelyn was all about it, and Joshua really wanted to, so we told him that he could serve, but to not try and carry the candles or books for Father or anything... Well, Father took one look at him, smiled, said he was just fine, and gave him a candle. Hehe! Joshua walked in all smirking, holding his candle very tightly in his one good hand, and using his cast to keep it balanced. *rolls eyes* Show-off. ;o)
Nah, he did just fine and didn't set anything on fire or drop anything, and he was very proud of himself. So I guess he's all good. :o)
After church, we picked up a few Emily clothes that I got from a neighbor on base, just some Hello Kitty and Dora stuff. I gave Emily the plastic bag with the clothes and said, "Okay, take this upstairs and Mommy will be there in a minute so we can put it in the washer and then you can wear it." Well, she was sooo excited about her new clothes that she didn't wait for me.
Lol! Yeah, that's how I found her when I got upstairs. Haha! She got the kids' stool out of their bathroom (they use it when brushing their teeth). She even had the clothes out of the bag and was already throwing them in the washer. Crazy girl.
Chris' work people were having a BBQ on base, so we went over to the big park for the afternoon.
Matthew was pushing Joshua in the giant swing, but as soon as J realized I had my phone out, he jumped up trying to avoid the camera, hehe. :o)
Hey there girls!
The kids really enjoyed going down the big slide.
Weeee!
Joshua came tumbling down the slide too. Lol, I guess he was going a little fast, and with only one arm he couldn't really keep his balance, so he kinda flipped sideways and backwards as he was coming down, haha!
But he was all smiles and said, "I'm good! I'm good!", laughed, and ran to do it again. :o)
Brothers being brotherly. ;o)
We had lots of hot dogs and drumsticks, and Matthew loved the drumsticks. :o)
Emily had a great time with Daddy on the swings.
Despite my many protests that she was going too high! Eek! I am no good with this dare devil stuff (seriously, I was having mini-heart attacks). Thank goodness they have an adventurous Daddy to push the boundaries of safety once in a while. ;o)
Haha, yeah, you could say she played pretty hard that day too.
The other midgets ran outside to play with their friends, who were all running around with water guns and chasing each other with water balloons. Evelyn and Matthew asked if it was okay if they got wet (Joshua couldn't get wet because of his cast. :o/ ) and we said okay.
I watched them get sprayed with the guns and run from the balloons for about an hour, and then suddenly I looked out and they were both dripping wet!... And they were on the slide... I went out there to see just what was going on and dude - all those kids out there were filling buckets full of water, hauling them up to the top of the slide, and taking turns going down the new "water slide" as their friends poured water down with them. Lol!
Oh my gosh - they were flying down that slide! I just knew one of them would end up hurt eventually, so I watched Evie and Matthew do it a couple more times and then decided it was time to come in for showers. But can you believe that?? Gosh, the things these kids come up with!
And no worries, we let Joshua high-jack the TV so he could play all the Wii games he wanted (and I may or may not have snuck him cookies when no one was looking.) ;o)
Look whose new clothes were ready by bedtime.
:oD
And in case you're wondering - yes, she has rolled off of her big girl bed twice now in her sleep. One time I heard her hit the floor, so I jumped up to rescue her, but she was already snuggled up to her stuffed puppy dog and (still asleep?) back to sleep. The next time I woke up, looked over, and she was sleeping on the floor. :oP Haha, I guess it's gonna take some time for her to get used to that missing side. But no worries - we put a pillow on the floor next to her bed to catch her next time, but it's been a few days now with no falls, so woohoo! :o)
And that was our week! Goodness, there was so much going on, but yeah, it's all good! The kids are now finishing up their last week of school, so this week has been super-easy so far, and the kids are having lots of fun getting out early every day. :o) Hope everyone is doing well and has a great Memorial Day weekend. We're planning to spend a nice, quiet weekend at home, preparing for our visit back to Pensacola next week. :o)
Laters!
