Mardi Gras Madness

Hello!  Okay, this post covers just the last week or so, not too many pictures, but we still had an awesome Mardi Gras  :o)

So, Emmy and I went to the Exchange one day, and there was a horse.
And not just any horse, they had a Budweiser Clydesdale!
There were a few people lined up to pet the horse and take pictures, but she said she did not want to touch the horse, and this was the closest she would get for a quick pic.  On to our shopping.

But then, we came out of the store and her story had changed, "Mommy, I want to pet it.  Please, can we pet it?"  Me - "Uh... Emily, the line is now down around the building, we have more grocery shopping, so no, we can't pet it today."  And I kept walking... but then, "Mommy, pleeeease.  Just for like 2 minutes, pleeeease, I love you Mom... and I want to say hi to the horse."
So yeah.
Haha, we stood in line for almost an hour, and then that little fool wouldn't get near the darn horse!  I had to stand there with her and get someone else to take the picture.  Then I said, "Are you gonna say hi and pet it?"  And she says, "No, you can pet it Mommy."  :oI  So I did, but I got her to pet it a little too!  And she was very happy and kept telling everyone how she got to pet a horse.  :oP  Crazy child.

Later that day, we got lined up to watch the Krewe of Plaquedilla Parade on base.
Yeah, it was a little drizzly out there.

The parade was held during school, so Matthew was supposed to view it with his class while Evelyn and Joshua marched in it.  :o)
Whad up foo'?

Everyone loved throwing stuff to our girl.

And here comes Evelyn and her JV cheerleaders!  :o)

She would yell out the beginning of each cheer, and all the girls would join in.

What an awesome Cheer Captain she is!

And then this handsome fella marched by.

That boy's getting to be a pro at this parade stuff.  ;o)

And check out our little pimp.
Lol!

Yes, she is very reluctantly accepting beads from a dude in a rat mask, haha.

A few days later, Emily's Doc McStuffins toy told her to draw something that you exercise with, so she drew a bike!
And it even looks like a bike!  ;oD

Glad to see her taking good care of those puppies of hers.

Quick pics before school one day.
Matthew was not amused by Emmy's bling, haha.

Cute girl wearing her "horn book" to school each day for history (because that's how kids used to carry their school books around in the old days).

Evelyn came home from school last month and said that the cafeteria served the best turkey and gravy she had ever had in her whole life.  I told her that was awesome, I wish I could have some too... So, she searched the lunch menu until she found when they were having it again and said, "Mom!  They're having turkey and gravy on my half-birthday!  Will you come and eat with me, pleeeeease?!"  Her half-birthday?  What is that?  She said, "It's on February 27th, it's exactly half way until my next birthday."  Haha.  Okay.
So we shared a wonderful lunch with Evie on her half-birthday.  I had the best turkey and gravy ever (for real!), Emily had some strawberry milk, and Evelyn was extremely happy to have us there.  :oD

My little gangsta brought her orange home to save for later.  :o)

Evelyn proudly showed me her time line for history.

She got it back with this little note from the teacher.
"100. Awesome. Best one. :)"
Woohoo!

Later, she and Emily built a lego cake for her half-birthday.

On Saturday, March 1st, Joshua marched in the Krewe of Isis parade in Metairie, and it was a big one.
Unfortunately, Daddy ended up having to work the whole weekend, so we were not able to go see Joshua in this one.  :o/  Booo.
But it was all good, that boy still had a great time, and returned home safely later that night.  And check out what his band director had to say on the school's facebook page:

"From the BCA Eagle Band Director:
Saturday night I took my kids out to march in The Krewe of Isis Parade.  Not only was this the last scheduled parade of the year for us, it was also a potentially huge, and much needed fundraiser for us.  In addition to the payment contracted to the Band for participating in the parade, I also blindly entered the Rhythm on the Route competition.  It seemed like a great idea, but entering as a middle school seemed a bit risky.  There was no cost for entering so I thought "why not".  I have a great bunch of kids.  The odds were stacked against us in every other way though.  I mean, we only get to rehearse twice per week and after school on Wed., just over an hour per rehearsal.  To put them through a 7+ mile parade and an 8 hour evolution seemed to be a bit much.  But these children and their parents rose to the occasion.  EVEN AFTER I TOLD THEM THAT WE ENTERED THE COMPETITION AS THE ONLY MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND!!!  At first, I got a few "less than confident" looks.  But they seemed to believe me when I said that WE COULD DO THIS!  Though it didn't help that we had to follow the Marine Band, I have to admit that caused me to panic a little bit.   In the end, my little middle school band came home with the 3rd place trophy and an extra $1000 for our program, beating out at least 2 other high school bands!  Before we got back on the bus to head home, I gathered all of the kids and the parents to let them know how proud of them I was... and that I have NEVER been more proud of 3rd place in my life than I was at that moment.
WAY TO GO BCA EAGLE BAND!!!"

Wow.  Isn't that just incredible?!
Joshua practices nearly every day and works so hard on getting his music right.  He was so excited when he came home that night and yeah, our little saxophone player is freakin' awesome.  :oD

My little chef was back in the kitchen helping me out.

And then she and Evie spent the day playing outside.

:o)

The kids were out of school March 3-5 for Mardi Gras, and Daddy was off of work for a couple of days (woohoo!), so we finally got to take those midgets to see The Lego Movie!
But first, we must pose with Captain America's shield.

:o)

And the movie was awesome! Not like "The Hobbit"-awesome, but very funny, and we can't wait to get it on DVD.  :o)
Everything is awesome!
That's the name of the song in the movie that they sing over, and over, and over... so of course, our kids were singing it over, and over, and over again for days, especially Emmy!  Lol.  Go ahead.  Check it out.  But I warn you, it will be stuck in your head for days... Ha.

Lucha Libre Warrior Evie says - No worries!
It's all good.  :oD

We had quite the adventure this Mardi Gras.
We knew the cold front was coming, we knew the rain was coming, but oh - we wanted parades! and beads! and party!  So here was our choice: Do we take the kids out on Mardi Gras and deal with the rain and the cold?  Or do we take them out on Lundi Gras (Monday's parades) and deal with the people who've been partying all day, nay, all weekend long?  Yeah, not much choice, eh?

We woke up to a blustery 34 degree morning with a 100% of rain...
Laissez les bons temps rouler!

We hit the road and headed out to see Rex, King of the Mardi Gras!
Yeah, guess it was kinda early for them. Lol!

We were checking the radar and man, it just looked like it'd be pouring on us when we got there, not to mention we have to park several blocks away from the route... *sigh*
But then, a friend of ours invited us out to Metairie to watch the Krewe of Argus Parade with them.  And while the parade out there isn't Rex, it's much more family-friendly, you can park right next to the route, and they bought a new canopy just for the occasion!  So yeah, we quickly changed our course.

And I'm so glad we did.  :o)
It was a steady rain the whole time, but those kids had soooo much fun!

And thank goodness for that glorious canopy!!  :oD

Surprisingly (but not really) there were a lot of people out there, some with canopies and umbrellas, some without.  But gosh, still that air of festivity and celebration, you know?  So exciting!

Haha!

I tried to keep them dry for as long as possible, but yeah, it was a party, so they partied.  :o)

:oD

And once the floats started throwing stuff, there was no way I was keeping them from being out there.
:o)

Some of the floats had people throwing, but a few were completely empty! Guess the maidens couldn't handle the cold.  And I don't blame them, it was 39 degrees!

And oh, those poor marching bands!  They were playing their little frozen fingers off, so we just hooted and hollered and clapped for them as much as we could.
And thanked God that Joshua wasn't marching today.  :o1

Dude - guess who the Grand Marshal was...
Freakin' Rob Ryan!
Lol, guess it wasn't too cold for him!  I kept hoping he'd look our way and see our Cowboys gear, but he was too busy on the other side of the float.  :oP  (If you look close at that pic, you can see his gray hair blowing in the breeze.)  ;o)

Because of the rain, a lot of the floats were throwing entire bags of beads, just unloading as fast as they could I guess, but gosh, it was so crazy and awesome!

We ate the most delicious King Cake ever out there, and had so much fun with our friends, despite the frigid temps.

Happy Mardi Gras!  :oD

And when it was over, they crashed again.
Lol.

Except for Joshua.  :o)

And once everyone had a warm shower, we settled into our home for some more King Cake.
Dude, it's a chocolate and coconut one!!
(and yes, there's a second Cake there on the counter, you can never have too many of those things on Mardi Gras.)  :oD

And Matthew got the baby!
King of the Mardi Gras!

Whew.  Seriously - an adventure!  And we later learned that we survived the 2nd coldest Mardi Gras Ever!  The coldest was 38 degrees in 1899! Go us!  ;o)  We are so glad we decided to join our friends, and the kids were really happy that they got to go out and celebrate another Mardi Gras here.  :o)  Now that parade season is over, Joshua is learning the National Anthem for an event later this month, and we only have one more quarter until school is over for the year!  We just finished reading our latest book, "Heaven is For Real" and it was a really, really great book to experience.  I'm so glad that we got to read it together, because, man, that stuff is hard...  But our midgets are so strong and wise and yada yada, you know what I mean.  It's all good.  ;o)  Now, they're trying to decide if we should read the Harry Potter series next, or the Hunger Games series... Goodness, we shall see!  :oD  Hope everyone's doing well.  We're thinking about coming into town for a few days the week after Easter (which is the kids' Spring Break), but we have to see if Chris can get leave and stuff, but we'll let y'all know.  :o)

Laters!
